1st Partners Meeting for FOODWISE held in Thessaloniki
FOODWISE Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Project, co-funded by the European Union, aims to reduce the consumer-related food waste and encourage citizens and guests in the Black Sea Basin(BSB) area to rethink and adopt more sustainable habits regarding consumption and disposal of food.
The project consortium includes partner from Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia and Turkiye, and FoodWISE`s general objective is to enhance the potential of local and regional administrations in rural areas in the BSB region, in particular settlements with high tourism pressure during summer season, to jointly educate and raise awareness of local citizens and tourists as regards food waste prevention and reduction as a tool for reducing all forms of pollution in their territories. The project approach involves a series of complementary actions for promoting innovation and knowledge transfer in the field of reducing the human impact on the regional natural resources and biodiversity, intensive capacity building and public awareness campaign, as well as events with high transnational added value and potential for achieving the common goal to tackle food waste in the region.
In the project, as project consortium, firstly, we develop of the Toolkit which illustrates examples of food waste prevention in action and guidance how to use and up-take these proven experiences and providing the training of the Toolkit to public and municipal civil servants in local authorities. Then, we validate of the skills acquired in the organization of innovative awareness raising actions targeting local households, students, tourists vacationing in the region with 1 International “I VALUE FOOD” student contest, 4 “FOOD WASTE PATROL” campaigns, 4 REPLATE festivals, 1 International high-level conference under the supervision of the project team.
