The environmental organization incommon invites residents and visitors of Kavala to the REPLATE FESTIVAL on Saturday, September 27, residents and visitors of Kavala to Faliro Park for the REPLATE FESTIVAL, an all-day celebration with ideas and suggestions for reducing food waste, which contributes to caring for the environment.
The REPLATE festival is being held in collaboration with the Municipality of Kavala, one of five municipalities in Greece where the European FoodWISE project is being implemented in partnership with incommon. The main objective of the project is to reduce food waste in coastal areas in the Black Sea basin with high tourist traffic during the summer season.
“We are coming to Kavala with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of reducing the waste generated daily in household and business kitchens. This is because this type of waste accounts for approximately 50% of the total weight of waste that a municipality has to manage according to the National Waste Management Plan (ESDA) 2020-2030*. Less waste means less pollution and less impact on the environment, health, and the economy,” notes Vangelis Vragoteris, Circular Economy Researcher and Assistant Project Manager at incommon.
Original workshops and activities for young and old will be held at central locations in the city, giving them the opportunity to discover how much flavor and care for the environment can be hidden in the waste produced by home and business kitchens . Smart ideas for using food scraps in new dishes, composting, picnics, and tips for proper food storage are just some of what’s included in the day’s rich program, which highlights local cuisine and features local food professionals.
